A surprise home defeat for Globe Holidays sponsored Stocksbridge Rugby at the weekend as York RI inflicted a ‘smash n grab’ 19pts to 12pts victory to leave Stocksbridge winless after 2 rounds of the Yorkshire 4 Counties league competition. All is not lost for the Stocksbridge outfit as tries just before half time from hard working back rower Pete Newton, sponsored by Andy & Shelley Bell & another from promising youngster Harrison Norman, sponsored by Miss Diane Woodcock near the end of the 2nd stanza kept the home team in the hunt. That man Adam Frith, sponsored by Brian Mills Painting & Decorating services, was on hand with a successful conversion, & Stocksbridge would have probably won with a few more minutes on the clock, but a disastrous start which saw the visitors score 2 unanswered tries, left the home side with just too much to do. Stocksbridge now sit 10th in the league ladder with just a solitary bonus point to show for their efforts, & a tricky away trip to Leeds, to much fancied Otliensians at the weekend, before entertaining Richmondshire RUFC at Coal Pit Lane on 23rdSeptember with a 3pm kick off. This week’s Premier Stone Worktops Ltd was Pete Newton, who stood out in the back row in a pretty good overall team effort.
