Another cancellation, & another week kicking their heels as basement boys Knottingley RUFC failed to raise a team & Globe Holidays sponsored Stocksbridge Rugby were awarded a 5pts home walk over to help them cement 2nd position in the Counties 4 Yorkshire South league ladder. A Club spokesman said, 'this is not the 1st or 2nd time teams have failed to travel in this league & it's making a mockery of the positions due to a lack of games', adding, 'the YRFU need to sort the league structure out so players can get regular games, after all it's what they train for.' The time off is helping the recovery of some of the Stocksbridge injured players as Adam Roles-Middlehurst (concussion) Ricky 'rooney' James (back) along with Reece 'diesel' Aspin (hamstring) & club captain Andy 'clock tower' Beal (shoulder) will benefit from the enforced lay off, all 4 will face fitness tests before the next crucial Round 17 fixture away at Hallamshire RUFC on 21st March. Bad news for player/coach Aaron Kaye who's playing season is now over after the dislocation of his shoulder was confirmed. The next scheduled match at the Coal Pit Lane Arena will be the local derby clash with near neighbours Wortley RUFC on 28th March with a 3pm kick off, all are welcome.
The club have confirmed their annual presentation night for Friday May 1st where the player trophies will be awarded in line with the chosen categories, tickets are available from the clubhouse.
