Stocksbridge RFC

A stretched Stocksbridge side were humbled by a confident Aireborough performance conceding ten tries on the day.

Firstly, great thanks goes to Deepcar Home Improvements who's valued sponsorship has ensured that our substitutes will be able to enjoy the added comfort of our new 1st XV Sub Suits. These will prove invaluable during the winter months when having to endure the arctic winds that regularly frequent the valley on a Saturday afternoon.

Stocksbridge began the game well, going through the motions in Aireborough territory. Conceding penalties in quick succession soon saw them defending their own line, and with the defence stretched the Aireborough flanker was able to dummy at the ruck to score.

The problems mounted for the away side after full back Bowskill was sent to the bin for a deliberate knock on in the red zone. The resulting penalty was kicked to the corner and a well executed catch and drive maul extended the score to 12-0.

Aireborough would add two further tries while Stocksbridge were reduced to fourteen, a second row smashing his way over from close range and a carbon copy line out drive doubling their advantage.

They would add one further score before half time, starting with the full back returning a kick with devastating agility. A brilliant cover tackle by Callum Green looked to prevent a try but the offload found the hands of the supporting player.

Scott Bowskill would get the only points of the game from Stocksbridge before the break, kicking a penalty goal 35 meters out.

Aireborough continued in clinical fashion in the second half, quickly adding a further score. A slick cut-out move from first phase line out ball opened up the defence and the winger would run in unopposed, the scores at 34-3.

The Aireborough tight-head would score two tries of his own in quick succession, plucking out an interception pass and winning the foot race to score was the highlight.

Stocksbridge proved they had the ability to play; a succession of quick tap penalties from Paul Kelly had Aireborough on the back foot, and a line brake from Adam Frith threatened a wonderful score down the right flank.

Alas, it would not come for the pigs, and Aireborough would score twice more before the final whistle would come with the score 60-3 to the home side.

There were notable 1st XV debuts for Chris Wood and James Proctor, whilst vice captain Adam Frith (sponsored by BM Decorating Services) was deservedly awarded Man of the Match on his return from injury, creating danger on numerous occasions with his dynamic attacking play in the centres.
