Globe Holidays sponsored Stocksbridge Rugby will now be at home, at the Coal Pit Lane Arena this weekend for the visit of basement side Knottingley RUFC. The West Yorkshire outfit have been ordered to travel to Stocksbridge as a result of forfeiting a recent fixture, when there were unable to raise a side. The Round 17 fixture in the Counties 4 Yorkshire South competition will be a 3pm kick off, as Stocksbridge look to cement their 4th position in the final league ladder, with just one further game, also at home against Sheffield Medics remaining on 5th April. The Club will then turn their attention to the Midweek Spring Cup, with fixtures due to be announced shortly, as a means of adding more silverware to the already secured Fox Valley Trophy for this season. With a free weekend, most of the 1st XV squad took the opportunity to watch the culmination of the 6Nations competition in the clubhouse, whilst others used the valuable downtime to continue with rest & rehabilitation from injury. Player/Coach Aaron Kaye has already welcomed back workhorse flanker Reece ‘diesel’ Aspin from a knee condition, & experienced flier Callum ‘whippet’ Green has also rejoined training after being passed fit. Skipper Andy ‘clock tower’ Beal (shoulder) & youngster Jake ‘bristol’ Bevan (hamstring) will also benefit from a further week’s rest, along with stalwart front rower Ricky ‘rooney’ James & his young son Jack ‘joey’ James.
Attention will turn shortly to the Club’s Annual Awards Evening, this Year on Friday 25th April at the Manchester Road HQ, where the efforts & achievements of an improved season will get recognised. This is sure to be a busy event , so be sure to get your ticket from the Club, priced just £10.
Stocksbridge Rugby recently announced the Bradfield Brewery Man of Steel for February as that man Adam Frith. He has produced some courageous displays, against some uncompromising opposition & his enthusiasm for training & general contribution to the club has also been recognised. Frith is kindly sponsored by Brian Mills Painting & Decorating Services.
The ambitious club are also on the lookout for new players to add some depth to their squad for next season, if you fancy it or know someone who might, please contact the club & one of the Senior Coaching Staff will return your call.
