With the Counties 4 Yorkshire South fixtures suspended for the International Autumn Nations Series, Globe Holidays sponsored Stocksbridge Rugby have used the time to rest & rehab many of their walking wounded in a bid for strong squads for their remaining 2 fixtures of the Year. Player/Coach Aaron Kaye is hoping to have Reece ‘diesel’ Aspin, ‘slammin’ Sam Whitaker, Joe ‘el torro’ Smith plus Harrison ‘the storm’ Norman available for these important end of Year clashes, as Stocksbridge look to climb the table from their current 6th position in the league ladder. This week sees the 2nd round of the Fox Valley Trophy where neighbours Wortley RUFC hold a 21pt advantage after defeating Stocksbridge in the 1st game back in September. The Trophy will be awarded to whichever team scores the most points at the end of the 3 game series, so all is still to play for. The following week, December 7th, sees Maltby RUFC visit the Coal Pit Lane Arena, & Club Captain Andy ‘clock tower’ Beal is optimistic about his teams’ chances of further back-to-back wins on home turf. ‘having played both sides earlier in the season, we were close on both occasions & really could have won them both with a bit more craft & know how’, he said, before adding, ‘having some important players back for us gives us a boost & we are looking forward to challenging for that silverware’. Stocksbridge are just 1 pt adrift of both Wortley & Maltby, so back-to-back victories will see them rise above their rivals in the league table, both games are scheduled for 2.15pm kick offs, & the end of Year run in looks set to be an exciting time for the Stocksbridge club. Meanwhile the club are looking for more players to add to their roster, good or average, old or young, you will be made most welcome, please contact the club on stocksbridgerc@gmail.com & a member of the Coaching Team will contact you. Off the field, Stocksbridge Rugby club are pleased to confirm the following events, where all are welcome into & over the Christmas period.
