This weekend sees the decider in the Fox Valley Trophy trilogy of matches as Globe Holidays sponsored Stocksbridge Rugby entertain near neighbours Wortley RUFC at the Coal Pit Lane Arena on Saturday with a 2.15pm kick off. With the series tied at one game all & identical points scored, both sides will fancy their chances of taking the silverware, kindly provided by Fox Valley themselves. Last weekend’s Round 13 clash against basement club Knottingley RUFC was cancelled as the West Yorkshire side were unable to field a full team. Stocksbridge had to be content with a 5 point walk over victory & a jump to 4th in the Counties 4 Yorkshire South league ladder.
Stocksbridge were able to hold a much needed training session with their 1st XV squad, where the club welcomed back happy hooker Mikey ‘vegas’ Hartley along with back rower Reece ‘diesel’ Aspin after injury lay offs.
‘Without a fixture, we took the opportunity to work on some attacking shape & defensive structures in training’, said Club Captain Andy ‘clock tower’ Beal, adding ‘the lads all felt better for a good blow out, & a bit more clarity in our play will give us options on the field’. With only 1 completed fixture & training disrupted throughout the Month, the Club’s Coaching Staff have decided against awarding a Man of Steel for January due to a lack of action & opportunity.
Meanwhile at the clubhouse this weekend saw participation in a darts challenge for McMillan cancer. The challenge was to score 100 000 points in a 12 hour period. Varies people in the club took part and even our club captain 'clock tower' Beal managed a '180' towards the score. The club managed to score the 100 000 points in 7 hours and 12 minutes. The most points scored was won by Gavin thoughout the day. A good day was had and money raised for a good cause.
