A six figure grant from Stocksbridge Town Council has enabled Globe Holidays sponsored Stocksbridge Rugby to have both their pitches fitted with new drainage facilities. A Club Spokesman said, ’we are indebted to our Local Authority for this generous grant. Given our pitches are quite high up, they take a lot of weather damage, so this work is welcome & necessary’. The work is scheduled to start in mid July & should last around 2 weeks, weather permitting, of course.
This may cause some issues for the Club’s playing roster, as their return to pre-season training is also scheduled for around that time, & other suitable venues are being considered by the Coaching panel. The Club are yet to appoint a new Head Coach for the forthcoming season, as applications are being considered however, training will get underway on schedule with the Club’s current resources. Fixtures are due to be released towards the end of the Month, & with some new teams added to the league set up, Stocksbridge will be amongst the favourites for a top 4 spot this season, under the Captaincy of Andy ‘clock tower’ Beal.
Meanwhile the Club will host a local Scout troop for a Rugby taster session on Wednesday 19th June from 7pm. The 105th Sheffield (High Green) Scout Group asked the Club if they could facilitate this at the Coal Pit Lane Arena, & Stocksbridge Rugby are keen to help local communities & clubs in this way.
