Globe Holidays sponsored Stocksbridge Rugby head into the new Yorkshire 4 Counties season with a rallying call from skipper, that man Adam Frith. Following on from last seasons improved showing under the guidance of Kiwi Head Coach Andy Lawrence, the ambitious captain is looking for further improvement from his troops. ‘training has been going well, & our patterns of play & structure are coming together’ said Frith, adding ‘we have retained a number of our promising juniors who were blooded & did so well last season, along with adding some quality new players to the 1st XV squad roster’. New faces at Coal Pit Lane this season will include back rowers Laurie Faux, Jake Bevan & hooker Max Bevan in the forwards, with Jack Leary returning from a spell with Championship side Doncaster colts at fly half, & Tommy Kerr at full back. Young Jo ‘half pint’ Martin & Dylan O’Keefe will also add to the depth of the squad, whilst veteran Scotty Bowskill will be available after his wedding/honeymoon. Rumour has it that former club supremo Rhys Keenan has returned to training, whilst the club also await the returns of Ben Tyers, Laim & Pat O’Leary to their ranks. The club have arranged a pre season friendly away at newly reformed Maltby RUFC for Saturday 26th August, with a 3pm kick off, before the season officially begins with a trip to Aireborough Rugby the week after. The first home fixture at Coal Pit Lane will be the week after against York RI also a 2pm kick off, early season entrance is free so come along & support your local club. The clubhouse will be open before & after each game for drinks & other refreshments.
