Bustling 2nd rower Jordan ‘Spud’ Fletcher has decided to retire from competitive Rugby at the comparatively tender age of just 30. The popular forward has enjoyed a 17yr career with the Stocksbridge Club, beginning back in 2005. Jordan has become involved with Country Sports in recent years which has hindered his playing availability, & this has become a favourite past time for the Oughtibridge based Fletcher. When asked to recall the pick of his memories, Jordan said, ‘Being elected Captain of the 2nd XV, along with scoring my first try for the 1st XV’, will last long’. Fletcher will miss the physicality of the game, but not the cold, wet, muddy, rainy, windy afternoons up at Coal Pit Lane. He will also try to keep in touch with his former team mates as he said, ‘you never lose the whole rugby day camaraderie & match day experience, winning or losing together’, before adding, ‘& having a good drink as a team afterwards’. Fletcher, kindly sponsored by Club Chairman Mr Andy Bell was a robust 2nd rower, equally capable on both sides of the ball, who sometimes struggled with his own confidence. As former Head Coach, Andy Tyers said, ‘Spud is a big unit, & a handful for opposing teams. He was probably the only person who didn’t see his value to the squad, there is a big hole to fill, he will certainly be missed’. One thing is certain, is that with his other interests he will certainly not become a Couch Potato !!
