Globe Holidays sponsored Stocksbridge Rugby found themselves victims of the recent bad weather, & with a waterlogged pitch, they were forced to cancel their friendly fixture against Maltby Rugby at the weekend. With only 1 serviceable pitch to play on, the club are keen to begin drainage work on the main pitch after the grant award was confirmed last Month by Stocksbridge Council. The enforced rest has again given the Club’s walking wounded more time to rehab & heal, as Head Coach Andy Lawrence will be looking to select from a nearly full playing roster for the next league fixture, the Yorkshire 4 Counties round 8 clash versus East Coast rivals, & 4th placed Hornsea Rugby at Coal Pit Lane on Saturday, with a 2.15pm kick off time. Stocksbridge will be looking for a convincing performance & a win that would begin to lift them from their current lowly 12th place in the league ladder. Stocksbridge Rugby will then travel to West Yorkshire the following week to face 5th placed Knottingley RUFC. This Year’s Christmas Jumper fixture will be on 16th December, when old enemy Thornesians Rugby are the visitors to Coal Pit Lane. Club Captain, that man Adam Frith is confident that his charges can build on recent performances & pull away from the foot of the league, ’the break has given us time to recover & time to hit the training paddock’ he said, adding ‘the hard work will pay off, & we should begin to see the fruits of our efforts in performances, & results’.
