A late call off at the weekend left Globe Holidays sponsored Stocksbridge Rugby kicking their heels without a game as hosts Mosborough were unable to declare their ground fit for play ! The weather seemed to have gotten the better of the whole league as all the games were frozen off leaving Stocksbridge still in 6th place in the Yorkshire 4 Counties league coming up to the Christmas break. The enforced rest gives Head Coach, Andy Lawrence & his roster extra time to recover & prepare for the next fixture at home this coming weekend, when winless Knaresborough Rugby, bottom of the league are the final visitors of 2022 to Coal Pit Lane for the traditional Christmas Jumper fixture. Whilst Liam Dyson is still suffering the after effects of a head knock, back rowers Pete Newton is back in contention for a starting berth after recovering from a tricky hamstring injury, whilst Reece ‘diesel’ Aspin has no ill effects from a broken nose sustained away at Hornsea. The team also expect to be bolstered by the returning boiler room due of ‘slammin’ Sam Whitaker alongside ‘clock tower’ Andy Beal. Whilst nothing can be taken for granted, Stocksbridge should be looking for a maximum bonus point victory at the weekend, to see the Year out in style. ‘I guess it’s down to our attitude’ says skipper & that man Adam Frith, ‘if we continue to play to our strengths & work with the game plan, we should put ourselves in a good position, but it’s down to us to do just that !’
After the Christmas Jumper fixture, the Club will be hosting their own Christmas Party with special guest & front row forward Ricky ‘rooney’ James belting out some seasonal tunes on the guitar. The 1st XV will then break for Christmas before travelling to York RI on 7th Jan for their first fixture of the New Year.
