Woodcock wins Monthly award
Burly prop Gary Woodcock, sponsored by Valley Property Services has won the Dyson Funeral Services Man of Steel award for the Month of October. Woodcock’s contributions in the tight, the set piece & with ball in hand saw him edge out team mates Liam O’Leary, Harrison ‘the storm’ Norman & that man Adam Frith for the prize. With no fixtures in the Yorkshire 4 Counties South due to the Autumn International series, Globe Holidays sponsored Stocksbridge Rugby remain in 6th position in the league ladder, & will welcome the students of Sheffield Medics + Dentists RUFC to the Coal Pit Lane Arena this weekend, where Stocksbridge will be looking to complete a rare league double in this round 7 clash. The week off should give some of Stocksbridge’s walking wounded further time to recover, with Reece ‘diesel’ Aspin (knee), Ricky ‘rooney’ James (back) & Callum ‘whippet’ Green (ankle) facing fitness tests in the week, whilst the club are looking to build on their recent home victory over Hessle & another big crowd is expected for a 2.15pm kick off. Rookie Player/Coach Aaron Kaye has been pleased with the efforts, particularly from the younger, more inexperienced members of the squad during Club training as he said, ‘you can see a real improvement in the guys, as they take in & absorb the information & learnings we are delivering thru the coaching sessions. The confidence will grow as we become more competitive & win more games, & I think their understanding of match play is also developing. It’s a good time to be a part of this Club.’ Kaye himself has earned good reviews from his Coaching Team with veteran assistant Andy Tyers commenting, ‘the transition from just player to the Coaching seat is tough, particularly for a young man like Aaron,’ before adding, ‘he’s a smart lad & has a good rugby background, & if the boys continue to buy into his methods & delivery, the improvements & results will follow’.
