The Rugby Football Union, the game's governing body, has taken the decision to postpone the start of the community game this season due to concerns surrounding the safety of pitches due to the prolonged hot weather, making them unsuitable for full contact rugby. This will affect the season's scheduled opening fixture of the Counties 4 Yorkshire C competition against Sheffield Club's 3rd XV at home on 19th September & a new date will have to be agreed on. A statement from Sir Bill Beaumont, president of the RFU said 'player welfare & readiness have been central to our thinking throughout, alongside our desire to give the season the best possible opportunity to begin on a fair & consistent footing across the country'. It now looks likely that the 1st game on the newly renamed 'Grov Park' stadium will be the visit of Dinnington 2nd XV on Saturday 3rd October with a 3pm kick off.
