Globe Holidays sponsored Stocksbridge Rugby have re-named their old Coal Pit Lane Arena Ground. As a tribute to former Club Secretary & Stalwart Mick 'Grov' Gribbins who passed away recently, the ground will now be known as 'Grov Park' & a suitable sign will be erected shortly for everyone to see. 'There were a number of options available to us', said a club spokesman, 'but we decided that naming the ground after him would be a permanent reminder & a fitting tribute for his work during the whole building of the facility'. The club are grateful for the sizable donation left to them as part of Mick's legacy & a memorial plaque will take pride of place in the Manchester Road Clubhouse.
On the field, training has intensified as the new season & opening fixture against Sheffield Club's 3rd string comes into view on 19th September, kick off at Grov Park will be 3pm.
The local derby against near neighbours Wortley will be away on 17th October, with the return fixture scheduled for 23rd January. It's looking like the home clash with Sheffield Club on 12th December will be the 'Christmas jumper' match & Christmas party night at the club.
The players are preparing for the challenges of the new league structure, & would welcome the support of all fans, old & new to cheer the 'blue wall' on.
