Dear Players, Supporters, Members and Friends of Stocksbridge Rugby Club, It is with profound sadness that we share the news of the passing of Mick Gribbins, affectionately known to so many of us as “Grov”.
Mick was, quite simply, the greatest servant Stocksbridge Rugby Club has ever had. There are few people who could ever be described as a truer club man. He embodied the values, spirit and heart of our club in everything he did.
As Club Secretary for fifty years, Mick’s contribution is almost impossible to put into words. His dedication, loyalty and determination helped shape the very foundations of Stocksbridge Rugby Club. Through decades of tireless work, Mick played a vital role in helping secure our clubhouse, changing rooms and pitches, as well as driving countless rounds of sponsorship and funding that have allowed the club to grow, survive and thrive.
But Mick’s service went far beyond any title or role. He gave his time, energy, knowledge and heart to this club. He did the hard work that often went unseen, the work that kept the club moving forward, and the work that generations of players, members, families and supporters have benefited from.
Every time we walk into the clubhouse, use the changing rooms, step onto the pitches, or gather together as one club, we will be reminded of Mick’s legacy.
Stocksbridge Rugby Club is stronger because of him, and his impact will continue to be felt for many years to come.
On behalf of everyone connected with Stocksbridge Rugby Club, we send our deepest condolences to Mick’s family, friends and all who had the privilege of knowing him.
He will be greatly missed, but he will never be forgotten.
